NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

A cab driver and a New Orleans police officer are being treated for injuries suffered after their vehicles collided in a Central Business District intersection.

The accident occurred at approximately 1:22 a.m. at the intersection of Fulton and St. Joseph streets.

A marked NOPD cruiser and a taxicab collided at the intersection. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to University Medical Center.

A traffic fatality investigation unit was on the scene though there is no word about the condition of either the police officer or the cab driver.

A representative from the cab company said the driver called right after the accident to report he was stuck in the cab. The driver “sounded out of it.”

We're told by the cab owner the driver is a man in his 60s who'd recently moved in with his older aunts to care for them.

There are still shards of glass, headlights and tail lights here on the scene. Most of the damage to the cab was on the driver’s side.
