NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A cab driver is recovering after colliding with a New Orleans police officer early Thursday morning.
There is no update on the condition of the NOPD officer who was driving the police cruiser.
The accident happened just after 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of St. Joseph and Fulton streets in the Central Business District.
The impact was so intense the cab was actually lifted onto the sidewalk and it came to a stop on the doors of the transformer at the Hyatt Hotel.
A representative from the cab company said the driver called right after the accident to report he was stuck in the cab. The driver "sounded out of it."
That man told us the driver was a man in his 60s.
Police are looking for surveillance camera footage in the area that could show the accident as it happened.
NOPD spokesman Tyler Gamble said traffic detectives are actively investigating the incident.
