LSU athletic director Joe Alleva can end his search now for a new head coach. It's one person only, Tom Herman. The Houston head coach is 1 and 1A on the list.
For goodness' sake, Herman is making University of Houston football relevant again. I don't recall paying attention to the Cougs since the run-and-shoot's offensive heyday run by Andre Ware and David Klingler.
He's a flat-out winner to start. Under Herman, the Cougars are 18-1. Plus, he's an offensive guy. LSU currently has the tools to explode on offense, they just need a conductor, Herman is that guy. He's smart in interviews and I can actually understand what he's talking about.
Speaking of smarts, Herman is a member of Mensa International, a group consisting of the top two percent IQ in the world. Wait, a football genius…and an actual genius!? What else do you want? LSU can possibly keep their defensive coordinator Dave Aranda if Herman comes too. They were roommates in college at Cal Lutheran.
Here's a rundown of the other nominees and why not to hire them:
Jimbo Fisher: Spurned you last season to stay at Florida State.
Lane Kiffin: Fired the last two times he was head coach. His Twitter trolling is juvenile.
Ed Orgeron: Great interim guy, but will have to go undefeated to get main gig. Bebe' is a great recruiter, but he's a defensive guy.
Bobby Petrino: Can't trust him at all.
Art Briles: A total disaster situation got him fired at Baylor.
In this space a month ago I gave Major League Soccer a little love. It's still not my soccer league of choice, but hey someone is watching it. This is obvious by taking a closer look at average attendance.
Major League Soccer is seventh in the world when it comes to yearly attendance figures. The Bundesliga of Germany is tops, and the English Premier League is second. The big five leagues in the world are: Bundesliga, EPL, La Liga (Spain), Serie A (Italy), and Ligue 1 (France).
Get this, MLS actually averages better than one of the "Big Five." MLS averages 21,574 fans a contest. Ligue 1 stands at 20,976 a match.
MLS averages more fans than two North American leagues also. The NBA and NHL. Yes, those leagues play in smaller venues, but shows the interest is there.
I went to carnivore heaven the other night and died. It's been a couple of years since I went to Toups Meatery, but after my meal Wednesday, I was questioning why it took so long for me to return.
The meatery board set the mood right for the night. It's a selection of house-made fresh and cured meats. Plus, cracklins came with the appetizer, so salty and perfect. The double-cut pork chop is outstanding. It's massive, and perfect for a second meal. Dessert was also a carnivore's delight. The doberge cake consisting of : salted caramel, peanut butter, and bacon is a must-try.
I promise, my next visit will be sooner than later.
