NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A 1-year-old boy was rescued Friday from a fire that heavily damaged a duplex in the St. Bernard neighborhood.
The fire broke out just before 7:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Sere Street. As it was being dispatched, firefighters were notified that someone was possibly trapped inside.
When NOFD arrived, the home was heavily involved and a woman was screaming that her baby was inside, according to Fire Chief Tim McConnell.
Firefighters entered the home as it was being hosed down, found the boy and passed him through a window. McConnell said he was not breathing, and firefighters began CPR.
The boy was revived a short time later and taken to Children's Hospital, where he is alert, McConnell said. McConnell said the child had no obvious burns on body.
McConnell said the fire started in the occupied side of the duplex, and the cause is under investigation.
