SAN DIEGO, CA (WVUE) - At 0-3, the Saints are desperate. They need a win. But no one needs that first victory more than the man calling the shots.
For the first time since he arrived here, Sean Payton is under attack from passionate, loyal and frustrated fan base who now see him as the biggest problem to yet another slow start to the season.
The good will built up from a Super Bowl title is now gone. The fear of losing Payton to another team no longer exists.
Payton signed a new extension this offseason so that likely means his job is safe. However, should the bottom fall out on the season, and the Saints fall to say 3-13 or 4-12, the scrutiny will only intensify and could force ownership to act.
Getting to 1-3 would at least keep some of that scrutiny at bay for a week. But falling to 0-4 would only add fuel to a fire that Payton may not be able to put out.
