Hurricane Matthew could impact LSU, Tulane football games

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Football fans in Louisiana are keeping a close eye on Hurricane Matthew right now with two key conference games on the line.

Both LSU and Tulane play football games in Florida this week.

There has been no change as it relates to the status of LSU playing in Gainesville on Saturday. Hurricane Matthew's path could possibly turn toward the University of Florida campus this weekend. The school released a statement Tuesday morning.

"We continue to monitor the progress of Hurricane Matthew and its potential impact on campus. We are working closely with local, state and university officials as well as the Southeastern Conference office," said Chip Howard, executive associate athletic director for internal affairs at Florida.

Tulane is scheduled to play the University of Central Florida Friday night in Orlando, while LSU and Florida are expected to kick off in Gainesville Saturday at 11 a.m..

Matthew made landfall in western Haiti on Tuesday morning. Forecasters expect the storm could reach Florida by Friday.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott, already declared a state of emergency in advance of the storm's arrival in every county in the state.
