NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Three people were killed and two were injured in a Tuesday night Mid-City shooting.
According to initial New Orleans police department reports the shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. in the 3700 block of Ulloa Street.
Officers responded to a call of a shooting. When police arrived they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Several spent bullet casings were also found in the area.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims were taken to a nearby hospital for where they later died from their injuries.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's office has identified the victims as Darome Hilton, 34, Glenquel Emerson, 20, and Bobbie Basquine, 22.
Two additional victims suffered gunshot wounds in the incident and were taken to a nearby hospital in private vehicles.
A resident of the block said her family had just moved to there a month ago. After the shooting, they are now planning to look for a new place to live.
The Mid-City Neighborhood Organization calls this block a hot spot as they launch their camera program encouraging residents to have security cameras installed to keep watch.
The program was provided a grant to help people pay for those cameras and they say the next step is already being planned.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will release the identities of the victims and official causes of death when autopsies are complete and families have been notified.
