NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

An armed man robbed a Dollar General store in the St. Claude neighborhood and New Orleans police are searching for him.

According to initial police reports, surveillance video captured the suspect entering the store in the 1100 block of Poland Avenue just before 1 p.m. The suspect then entered the line to purchase a drink.

As the cashier handed the suspect his change, he then asked for the money in the register and lifted his shirt to display a gun on his waistband.

The store cashier complied and placed the money in a store bag. The suspect was then seen running down Poland Avenue toward Marais Street.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early to late 30s. He was seen wearing a royal blue shirt, blue jean shorts, dark-colored sunglasses and a black cap with a beige towel underneath it.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact any Fifth District detective at 504-658-6050.
