BELLE CHASSE, LA (WVUE) - Students at Belle Chasse High School got the surprise of the year Wednesday when Saints safety Roman Harper showed up as a substitute teacher.
"The kids and staff really had no idea that I was coming. One of the students in my first block class, sociology, asked if this was going to be like Oprah and there were free iPads under their desks." said Harper.
Harper's visit, which was aligned with his foundation's mission to promote mentoring and education, began at 7:30 a.m. to go over his schedule for the day. From there he "taught" English I, algebra, general tech and psychology.
As an added bonus, Harper also brought 300 pizzas.
The day ended with an assembly during which he gave one last pep talk and thanked the school for letting him visit.
