METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) -

Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni gave notice Thursday that he has been deployed to help respond to Hurricane Matthew.

It comes on the same day he was expected to speak out about his involvement in a texting controversy.

In a memo to Jefferson Parish Council members, Yenni said he received military orders for deployment through Oct. 15.
According to Yenni's biography, he is a U.S. Naval reservist.

The memo said that parish Chief Operating Officer Keith Conley will serve as acting president in Yenni’s absence.

Two council members, Chris Roberts and Jennifer Van Vrancken, released statements saying that they appreciate Yenni's military commitments, but they want him to answer the controversy.

Yenni bought one minute of air time on FOX 8, where he will address the matter. That will be shown during FOX 8 News at 10 p.m.
