KENNER, LA (WVUE) - A Jefferson Parish credit union employee heard ducklings trapped in a pipe in Kenner's Veterans Park and called for help.
Workers from the Kenner Code Enforcement and Public Works departments as well as the Kenner Fire Department responded to the park just across from the City Hall Complex.
Kenner officials say firefighters directed a spigot into the drain to gently pump in water and push the ducklings to the end of the pipe. Workers set up a small cage to catch the babies. All four ducklings were safely rescued.
A representative from Jefferson Feed was consulted on the best way to care for the ducklings. It was determined because of their size and vulnerability to predators, the credit union employee who first heard the ducklings will keep them for two to three weeks. Jefferson Feed agreed to provide feed and supplies to the credit union worker.
After a few weeks, the ducks will be returned to the park.
