Man driving wrong way before fatal crash in Covington

COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) -

Louisiana State Police believe a Meraux man might have been driving impaired before a fatal accident that killed early Friday morning.

Just after 1 a.m. Perry Nunez, 55, was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 12 in Covington between LA 59 and US 190 when he crashed into an 18-wheeler. 

Police say although Nunez was wearing his seat belt, but he died at the scene from injuries suffered in the accident.

Investigators obtained blood samples and sent them to the state crime lab for analysis.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, 37-year-old Justin Flood, voluntarily took a breathalyzer test which showed no signs of alcohol. Flood's passenger, 20-year-old Jaquan Flood was taken to a hospital for minor injuries.
