NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police and fire department crews were on the scene where the body of a woman was found in a lagoon in Audubon Park.
The Orleans Parish Coroner has also arrived on the scene.
A large area of the jogging track has been roped off and crime scene tape is up.
Several joggers and walkers are talking to police
The body was reported just after 9 a.m. in the lagoon near Perrier Street.
The Audubon Nature Institute, which oversees the park, issue a statement.
"We were saddened to hear of this death this morning. Audubon Nature Institute is cooperating with the New Orleans Police Department to assist with the investigation. While some areas of Audubon Park will be closed, the remainder of the park will be open for guests. We refer all other questions to the New Orleans Police Department which is handling this investigation."
