TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting in Loranger that left one woman dead.
According to police, at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a call on Briarpatch Cemetery Road of a woman lying in the street, possibly hit by a car. When they arrived the deputies located the woman, later identified as 27-year-old Heather Cox of Loranger, and determined that she was shot and not hit by a car. Police say that she suffered a single gunshot wound to the upper torso and was pronounced dead on the scene.
While investigating the shooting, police were notified of a vehicle fire on Highway 1054 in Independence. Detectives found a 2006 Nissan Sentra in the grassy area on the right side of the highway, completely burned.
During their investigation, detectives linked the car fire to the shooting death of Heather Cox.
Police have yet to make any arrests in the case. The investigation into the incidents continues.
