TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Tangipahoa Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested a man wanted for fatally shooting a Loranger woman and setting her car on fire.
Police say that 30-year-old Brian Gregory Anthony II of Albany, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Wardline Road and Milton Road in Hammond.
Investigators issued an arrest warrant for Anthony Tuesday night following an investigation into the shooting death of 27-year-old Heather Cox of Loranger. Cox's body was located Tuesday morning on Briarpatch Cemetery Road in Loranger. According to police, she was shot once in the upper torso. Her car was later found burned near Highway 1045 in Independence.
"He did know the victim, how well he knew her I'm not sure. What we knew through witness statement they had met on a couple of occasions and the night she was killed he met her at her house. They got in vehicle together and there were other people in the vehicle for a while," Sheriff Daniel Edwards said.
Edwards believes Cox was in the driver's seat when she was shot.
Her burned car was found about five miles away.
He was charged with second degree murder, one count of attempted second degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, burglary, simple criminal damage, simple battery, felony theft, simple arson and two counts of auto theft.
The attempted murder charge comes from the suspect allegedly shooting his brother in the arm earlier in the night.
