GRETNA, LA (WVUE) - Prosecutors in Jefferson Parish said today they will seek the death penalty for the man accused of killing a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's detective in June of 2016.
A grand jury returned an indictment for first-degree murder against Jerman Joseph Neveaux in the death of JPSO Detective David F. Michel Jr.
"We believe the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of Detective Michel warrant the harshest penalty," Jefferson Parish District Attorney Paul D. Connick, Jr. said in a prepared statement. "After consulting with my staff and Detective Michel's family, I have decided that my office will seek the death penalty."
Neveaux was also indicted on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, two counts of resisting arrest by force or violence and one count of possession of a stolen firearm.
