BATON ROUGE, LA (WVUE) - LSU's defensive secondary took a huge hit yesterday with the loss of safety Rickey Jefferson.
The senior from Destrehan broke his fibula in Wednesday's practice and had to undergo surgery Thursday afternoon. The injury happened during team drills.
A source with direct knowledge of the injury told Fox 8 today that Jefferson has 'not' been ruled out for the season. But, the chances of him returning are slim, which would mean his career as a Tiger could be over.
Jefferson's been a real cog in LSU's defense wheel since stepping on the field this season. He's started every game and in his career, he's tallied 88 tackles, a sack and four interceptions.
Early Thursday morning Jefferson sent out a tweet asking for people to pray for him. Senior Dwayne Thomas or junior John Battle will take Jefferson's place in the secondary.
