METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) -

A group of individuals were gathered outside of a local high school football game in Jefferson Parish, Saturday evening, with petitions to recall Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni. The group gathered outside of Joe Yenni Stadium in Metairie prior to the game between Jesuit and Rummel.

Mike Yenni has admitted, in a television commercial, to sending inappropriate texts to a young man during the Summer of 2015. He then apologized to everyone involved in the incident and to the residents of Jefferson Parish. Several elected officials in Jefferson Parish have called for the parish president to step down from his position.

Yenni has stated that he refuses to step down as Jefferson Parish President. "I'm going to keep doing my job and work as hard as I have since Day 1," Yenni said.

He also announced that he will voluntarily suspend all school appearances. In a letter, Yenni told the Jefferson Parish School Board: ""I recognize the concern that I have caused you in your role as a member of the Jefferson parish school board and have voluntarily suspended all appearance related to Jefferson parish schools, I'm not going to burden you with my personal challenge and I'm hopeful that further scrutiny will prove that I made a disappointing mistake."
