(WVUE) - Ah the good ol' days where a Saints game inside the Superdome wasn't a question of 'if' the black and gold would win but rather 'by how much.'
Success then was a guarantee. Now, it's much more complicated.
A once unstoppable home field advantage has now evaporated. Instead of a hostile environment so loud and intimidating teams could barely get correct calls in, there's now an anxiety that settles in over the fiercely loyal Who Dat Nation. Sure, they're still loud. But when things go wrong, you can feel the shift of emotions inside the building. Sometimes that leads to boos. Other times it just leads to an unspoken tension so prevalent you can cut it with a knife.
That's what four home wins in their last 15 tries will do to a fan base.
The Saints will have a chance to fix that Sunday against a wounded Carolina Panthers team coming off a short week. It won't be easy but nothing in the NFL ever is.
