NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

You won't find clown masks for sale in some stores anymore.

Target announced Oct. 17 it's pulling clown masks from store shelves because of a recent rash of clown problems across the U.S.

In Texas and West Virginia, people dressed as clowns were arrested for chasing strangers with sticks and baseball bats. In other states, there are reports of people dressed as clowns carrying out robberies.

A Target representative points to what the company calls "sensitivity to the issue at hand" for its sales decision.

Home Depot took a similar step in September, pulling a Halloween decoration called "The Scary Peeper Creeper" from its stores in Canada following complaints.
