NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - "I was riding my bike up the street, and the man called out and asked me if I had two quarters," said the victim of a Hollygrove robbery.
The victim, who FOX 8 will not identify, was heading home to the 8200 block of Nelson Street Tuesday afternoon when he said he tried to help a man who was asking for 50 cents.
"So, unfortunately, I put my hand in my pocket, and I knew that the bill was on top of everything. When I pulled my hand out of my pocket to give him the change, he saw that I had more money than what I was going to give him," the victim said.
What he had was a $100 bill, and he said that's when the man decided he wanted much more than 50 cents.
"He pulled me over to him, and said look here. He had this sweatshirt in his hand, and he uncovered this black revolver pistol, and pointed it at me. He told me to give him the money," the victim said.
The victim said he doesn't know what came over him, but he said no. Then suddenly, the robber revealed something about the gun he'd just pointed at the victim.
"We ended up getting some space between us, and he said, 'It wasn't real anyway.' I said, 'Well I would have given you whatever you wanted anyway. You didn't have to pull a gun on me,'" the victim said.
After that, the victim said the man jumped on top of him and the two began to wrestle for the money. At one point, he said they rolled into the street.
"We wrestled in the middle of the street for maybe a minute and a half, but I was yelling. None of my neighbors came out," the victim said.
The victim said the man kept grabbing for his money while they struggled in the street. Eventually, the robber grabbed the cash and took off running.
The victim was not hurt.
