Infant shot in Algiers upgraded to stable condition

ALGIERS, LA (WVUE) - An infant remains in the hospital after being shot along with two adults, one who died, at an Algiers apartment complex Thursday.

Family members of the victim tell | The Times Picayune that the child's father, Lenord Moses, was driving while the child sat on his lap. Investigators said as the car pulled into the entrance of the Cypress Run apartment complex, someone shot into the vehicle.

Moses was pronounced dead on the scene. An adult passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries. Thursday night the infant was rushed into surgery.

Family members told the news outlet that two bullet fragments struck the child's head.

"I was briefed today that the baby was out of surgery and was in stable condition," NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said. "There's no information about perpetrators, and we need citizens to come forward to tell us what they know, what they heard, and what they saw with last night's shooting."

"No matter how good the police department is, even if the police department was twice as big as it needed to be, there is no way we are going to resolve crime in the city just through police," Mayor Mitch Landrieu said. "They can get there fast. We can chase the bad guys. We can put them in jail. But at the end of the day, it really is the citizens of New Orleans through a lot of different kinds of ways that are actually going to create peace on the streets of the city."

New Orleans police ask that you call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 if you have any information.

Investigators are still looking for a motive.
