INDEPENDENCE, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that left one man dead and another man injured.
State Police say the crash happened just before 5 p.m. Friday on LA 442 east of the Tangipahoa River Bridge.
According to investigators, 60-year-old Gary Passman of Husser, LA was driving a 1992 Mazda Miata westbound on LA 442 when for unknown reasons Passman's vehicle traveled off of the right side of the roadway. Passman then overcorrected to the left causing the vehicle to go off of the left side of the roadway, travel down an embankment and overturn.
The passenger in the vehicle, 68-year-old Keil Albers of Husser was severely injured in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office.
Passman received moderate injuries and taken to North Oaks Health Systems.
State Police do not believe impairment or speed played a role in the crash but a voluntary blood sample was taken from Passman and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation. Any criminal charges will be referred to the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney's Office.
