JPSO: Man sought following Metairie murder, armed robbery

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - Detectives with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department are seeking a Hispanic man following a murder and armed robbery incident in Metairie. The incident occurred Sunday, Oct 16 in the 6200 block of Riverside Drive.

Police say that 52-year-old David Mayes was found lying in the streets. Witnesses told investigators that they saw Mayes talking with a Hispanic man, later identified as 23-year-old Lorenzo Zamora of Metairie. They say that Zamora then hit Mayes several times with his fist knocking him to the ground and causing him to lose consciousness. Zamora then walked away but returned a short time later with a black man, later identified as 39-year-old Christopher Powell of Metairie. Both men robbed Mayes as he remained unconscious.

According to police, Zamora returned for a second time before kicking Mayes repeatedly.

Mayes was transported to University Medical Center where doctors performed surgery. He was listed in critical condition but was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon.

Investigators arrested Powell and booked him with armed robbery. Detectives are still searching for Zamora, who is wanted for second degree murder and armed robbery.
