CUT OFF, LA (WVUE) -

Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office detectives arrest a teen after he admitted to fatally shooting a 17-year-old, while playing with a handgun. The incident occurred Saturday, around 11:30 p.m. on East Avenue C in Larose.

According to police, responding officers arrived on scene and found the body of 17-year-old Morris Charpentier, who was later pronounced dead on the scene. While investigating, detectives learned that Charpentier and another 17-year-old, identified as Dejon Caine were at Charpentier's house with several other individuals. Both Charpentier and Caine, were playing with a handgun. At one point, while Caine was holding the weapon, a shot was fired, striking Charpentier in the upper torso. As Charpentier collapsed, the other individuals ran from the home.

Police say that Caine later contacted police and admitted to firing the shot. He was arrested and brought to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. He was booked with negligent homicide and his bond was set at $100,000.
