HAMMOND, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Fire Marshal personnel are on the scene at the Red Roof Inn in Hammond investigating safety conditions at the location.
A complaint to the state fire marshal's office prompted the investigation.
Brant Thompson with the fire marshal's office said the motel has a long list of deficiencies that will need to be resolved.
Some of the problems include non-working fire alarm systems and deficient smoke detectors. The doors that lead to stairwells are also being inspected.
There have also been reports of cooking in the rooms with at least one guest that had been using a propane tank inside the room.
Fire watch personnel will need to remain on scene until issues are resolved.
Also on scene, are officials with the Hammond fire prevention bureau and city building officials.
