(WVUE) -

Anthony Davis poured in 50 in the Pelicans season opener against the Denver Nuggets, and yet, the Pels still lost by five.

Davis was a one-man wrecking crew in the Smoothie King Center Wednesday night. Knocking down 17-field goals. But, while Davis was virtually un-stopable, the rest of his teammates were not. Only two other Pelicans scored in double figures. And they were woeful from three point range, hitting just three of 19-shots.

Davis' became just the second NBA player all time to score atleats 50-in a season opener. Michael Jordan did it twice. And no other player has ever put up the kind of stat line, 50 points, 16 rebounds, 7 steals, five assists and four blocks, in an opener, that Davis did tonight.

And while the 50 points were the second most that Davis has ever scored in a game, it did break a Pelicans franchise record for season openers.

Meanwhile, Denver had five guys hit for double figures, led by Jusuf Nurkik's team-high 23 points.

The Pelicans will continue their brief home stand Friday night against the Golden St. Warriors.

For tight end Ben Watson it's season #15. But he admitted he didn't know if he was going to get there. " I would say that at the end of last year I was very unsure if I was going to continue playing," Watson said." I knew that if I did play there only a very small number of places that I'd consider going.  One of those teams were the saints..because it was here where Watson had the best statistical season of his career in 2015... First-round draft pick Marcus Davenport missed almost three weeks of action during Saints training camp. This weekend, Davenport was back at practice, and all signs point to the rookie playing against the Chargers this Saturday. "The assignment, he'll know. He's been practicing in the meetings. It's just making sure he's 100 percent. But I anticipate that happening this week. I anticipate him being able to work this week and get some playing time," said Sean Payton. The Un...
