NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The New Orleans Police Department is now investigating a body found in a burning vehicle Friday as a homicide.

Firefighters were called to the 3100 block of Industry St. just after 1:30 p.m. for a vehicle fire.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a Ford pick-up truck that struck a utility pole and burst into flames.

While extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered a body in the driver’s seat that was burned beyond recognition.

The NOPD has ruled the death a homicide because they believe the driver was shot before the crash but no other information was given.

Investigators are working to learn the gender and age of the victim.

If anyone had any information about this incident, they are asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
