ST. CHARLES PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

A Louisiana State Trooper narrowly escaped injury when a suspected drunk driver rear-ended his vehicle on the Bonnet Carre Spillway bridge early Sunday morning.

The crash happened at 4 a.m. in St. Charles Parish.

According to state police, the trooper was investigating a single-vehicle crash in the left lane when he observed a Nissan Altima traveling at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle approached the crash scene, the trooper ran away from his unit to avoid the impact. The Altima then rear-ended the trooper’s unit.

The driver of the Altima, 30-year-old Terrell Guillory, received minor injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Once he was released from the hospital, he was arrested and booked with DWI (second offense) and reckless operation.

The trooper was not injured in the crash.
