Police: be aware of sex offenders on Halloween

(WVUE) - Covington Police are urging parents to keep a close watch on their children during tonight's Halloween festivities.

Officers suggest children be allowed to trick-or-treat between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., and wear some type of reflective device after nightfall. Children should stay on sidewalks and out of roads as much as possible.

Police also identified 17 men living within the city limits who are registered sex offenders. Louisiana law prohibits these men from distributing candy or gifts to anyone under 18 years old. In addition, they also may not wear any type of mask, hood, or disguise.
