NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A lawsuit over whether Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni recall organizers can collect signatures 100 feet away from polls on election day goes to court November 3.

The lawsuit challenges a law that forbids politicking within 600 feet of voting sites. According to our partners at Nola.com|The Times-Picayune, recall organizers argue a 1995 state supreme court ruling allows petition activity 100 feet away from voting locations. The attorney general's office notes a revised law includes recall petitions among the specific political activity forbidden near voting sites.

Some people want Yenni out of office because they think he can no longer work effectively as Parish President. Yenni recently acknowledged he engaged in improper texting with a 17-year-old.
