Cruise ship passengers held up at gunpoint on Canal St.

Two cruise ship passengers are lucky to be alive after they were held up at gunpoint in the 100 block of Canal Street on Tuesday.

Street. According to the NOPD, a man and a woman were walking back to their cruise ship shortly before midnight when a man approached them armed with a black semi-automatic weapon. He demanded the man's wallet and the woman's purse. They both refused and a tussle ensued.

The couple was able to get away and started running from the gunman. The suspect fled in the opposite direction.

The victims described the gunman as a black male who was wearing dark-colored clothing and a bandanna over his face. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
