NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Concerns about a suspicious package cleared employees from the USDA building at Michoud Monday afternoon, but the all clear was given hours later.
Michoud management said mail room workers detected a package without the appropriate tracking.
Authorities evacuated workers from the building as a precaution. They called in the FBI as well as New Orleans Police and Fire to assist with the investigation.
"We just want to make sure, because our tracking system is very good in the mail room," said Malcolm Wood, Michoud Deputy Chief Operating Officer, "until the package is removed and we know what it is, then we're gonna be extremely safe."
A law enforcement source said the package ended up being harmless but would did not disclose what was inside.
