Two airlines try to appeal to travelers with cheap airfares

(WVUE) - As people begin to make plans for the holidays, one airline announced a 48-hour sale with tickets as low as $34/one way.

JetBlue says the tickets are good for travel from Dec.1, 2016 through March 9, 2017, some blackout dates apply. Check the airline's website for other travel restrictions.

The airline offers three flights to and from Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans. JetBlue offers round-trip travel from MSY to Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL), Boston, Massachusetts (BOS) and New York's JFK airport.

JetBlue's cheap fares must be booked by 11 p.m. New Orleans time on November 16, 2016.

In other news, United Airlines just introduced a new kind of passenger ticket class called 'Basic Economy.'

The fare is cheaper than the standard economy ticket, but comes with some limitations.

Basic Economy travelers will not know their seat assignment until they check-in, they cannot use any of the overhead bin space and they will be the last group to board the plane.

United Airlines also offers flights from the New Orleans airport (MSY).

The new fares go on sale next year.
