THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - A Thibodaux High Student was arrested Wednesday for bringing a gun onto the Thibodaux High School campus, according to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office.
Wednesday morning, a school administrator contacted the School Resource Officer after learning a high school student, 17-year-old Brennan Garman, possibly had a firearm inside his vehicle parked in the Thibodaux High School parking lot.
The officer made contact with Garman and escorted him and the administrator to the vehicle where Garman admitted to having a 9mm handgun inside the center console.
The officer secured the weapon and Garman was placed under arrest.
The officer's investigation revealed Garman did not intend to use the gun at school, and Garman said he had the gun for self-defense.
He was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was booked with Carrying a Firearm by a Student at school. He was released Wednesday night after posting $1,000 bond.
