NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A Dillard University police officer was involved in a shooting on campus Thursday after being called to investigate an alleged fight. No one was injured, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
The officer was responding to the alleged fight around 11 a.m. when he saw a white Lexus with tinted windows trying to leave campus. The officer told the NOPD that he tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and drove toward the officer.
The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene on Gentilly Boulevard.
The officer said he moved out of the way of the vehicle and pulled out his weapon opened fire. The shot did not strike anyone.
The victim of the initial assault was taken to a nearby hospital. The extent of the victim's injuries is unknown at this time.
According to Dillard authorities, a black truck was also involved in the incident and a Dillard student was assaulted by two people from off campus.
The NOPD Public Integrity Bureau Force Investigation Team is handling the criminal investigation into the use of force. Dillard is handling the administrative investigation.
