Orleans Parish coroner identifies two recent homicide victims

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Orleans Parish Coroner has identified two recent New Orleans homicide victims.

Thomas Merrill, 29, died November 14 from complication due to blunt force head injuries.

Merrill was found unconscious and lying in the 800 block of St. Louis Street near the curb suffering from injuries to his head.

Witnesses told police that Merrill had been escorted out of a nearby bar by security staff. After that, he got into a fight with an individual who hit him hard enough to knock him to the ground.

The suspect was later identified as David Battiste.

Battiste was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

DonLee Williams, 61, was shot to death Thursday in the 1300 block of Deslonde.

Police arrested Lloyd Henry, 54, for the shooting.

Williams and Henry were guests at a home, having attended a gathering there the night before.

The two men were involved in an argument. Henry retrieved a gun and shot the Williams several times.
