NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

New Orleans police have obtained a warrant for the man they believe pulled the trigger in a fatal Sunday shooting in New Orleans East.

Cornell Brown, 30, is wanted in connection with the shooting that happened in the 6200 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

Around 2 p.m. police responded to a call about a shooting near the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Downman Road.

A man was found inside a 2003 Ford Expedition, which had struck a pole and came to rest on the sidewalk.

The driver was found suffering from gunshot wounds to his body. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives learned the shooting took place at the Majestic Oaks apartment complex, located in the 6200 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

Witness statements, the search of a home in the area, and review of surveillance video from the location, led detectives to name Brown as the suspect in the shooting.

When he is found, Brown will be arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
