HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - An elderly woman was home alone when a man reportedly kicked in her door in broad daylight. Houma Police identify the suspect as 37-year-old Spencer Sims. Police say Sims broke into a home on Fern Street in Houma around 3 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 and immediately confronted the homeowner. Police say the woman was very frightened and tried to scare away the suspected burglar by telling him that her son was on her way to her house.
Police say Sims ignored the woman and continued to go through the house, taking medication, jewelry and other items including electronics. After interviewing witnesses Houma Police say they were able to identify Sims as the suspect. Police are also looking for another man who helped Sims remove some of the stolen items from the house.
Three days later, Spencer Sims was located in a home in the 100 block of Wayne Avenue where he was taken into custody without incident. Sims was initially arrested for Home Invasion, but since then, police were able to link him to another residential burglary that occurred on June Drive, where several power tools were stolen. Sims was additionally charged with Simple Burglary. He was transported to the jail and booked on those charges.
