CHALMETTE, LA (WVUE) - The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office says two teenagers were arrested Thursday night after crashing a stolen vehicle into a utility pole in Chalmette.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. near Paris Road.
According to Sheriff James Pohlmann, deputies received an alert about a stolen vehicle from New Orleans that had entered St. Bernard Parish. Deputies were then told to be on the lookout for a red Honda.
When the vehicle was spotted by deputies, they attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to stop. The driver then attempted to change directions to evade the deputies but struck a utility pole.
Three of the suspects jumped out of the car and fled the scene.
One suspect, 17-year-old Levar Russell, was found a short time later hiding under a house. He was arrested and booked with resisting an officer by flight and misrepresenting his name when taken to jail.
A fourth suspect, 17-year-old Corey Harris, was found inside of the vehicle with leg injuries. He was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans where he is being treated for his injuries.
The two other suspects remain at-large.
Pohlmann added that the crash caused power to go out in various parts of the area for different periods of time.
The incident remains under investigation.
