JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

Now that the turkey leftovers are gone, some home cooks are left gallons of used cooking oil. Jefferson Parish says recycle it.

The parish reminds people cooking oil should never be poured down the drain as it can damage your home's plumbing and the public sewer system.

The Jefferson Parish Department of Environmental Affairs has containers available for parish residents to drop off cooking oil used when they fried their Thanksgiving turkeys.

The locations are:
•    Metairie: 400 David Drive between Airline Drive and W. Metairie Avenue
•    Marrero: 6440 Lapalco Boulevard, Marrero entrance on Betty Street

Cooking oil containers are said to be clearly marked and located in the shelter area next to the used motor oil collection tanks.

Anyone using the collection sites must have a valid Louisiana driver's license to prove their Jefferson Parish residency.
