UPDATE: Police: Shooting incident in Gretna leaves one man dead, another injured

GRETNA, LA (WVUE) -

Gretna Police are investigating a shooting incident that left one man dead and another injured. The incident occurred Tuesday around 6:25 p.m. 

According to police, a unidentified Hispanic man and an unidentified black man exchanged gunfire near the intersection of 8th Street and Gulf Drive. Officers, responding to a call of shots fired, arrived on scene and learned that there was an additional scene on 11th Street, behind the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office building.

At the scene on 11th St., police found the black man inside of an SUV, that crashed into the fence line behind the JPSO property. The man was shot to the torso and officers tried to save the man's life, but he was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The Hispanic man was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition. Police say that a person of interest is in custody and is being questioned along with witnesses. Police have recovered multiple weapons and are in the process of determining if there were any additional shooters involved.
