EF-0 tornado confirmed in Westwego

WESTWEGO, LA (WVUE) -

An EF-0 tornado touched down in Westwego Wednesday morning around 8:45 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Winds gusts were estimated at 80-85 mph.

The National Weather Service and Emergency Management responded to the area for observation of damage.  Damage reported was a downed power pole on Avenue C, a roof blown off a house on Avenue D, an empty 1000-gallon tank was blown over at Blackwater Midstream located on LaBauve Drive.

A piece of metal roof came off and blown into the power lines at 640 River Road, treetop damage located at 73 River Road, insulation debris on the levee in this same area, facial damage in the 100 block of 4th Street, down trees by Our Lady of Prompt Succor School, security camera system damaged in the 300 block of 4th Street and minor roof damage in the three hundred block of Columbus.

Westwego Mayor Shaddinger and his Public Works Crews are cleaning all roadways and Entergy has restored most of the power to this area at this time.
