NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police have two men in custody and are searching for two more after officers were fired upon shortly after noon in the Seventh Ward.

Arrested are 44-year-old Keith Craig and 42-year-old Harold Mitchell.

A two-block perimeter around the location has been set. It includes Hope to Annette, Annette to North Dorgenois, North Dorgenois to New Orleans and New Orleans to Law. NOPD and SWAT are being assisted by State Police troopers and the State Police helicopter. Armed officers in full body armor have been going door-to-door in the neighborhood for nearly four hours.

No injuries have been reported.

Police said around 12:30 p.m. they were responding to an armed robbery call when they spotted a white expedition driving erratically in the area of Annette and Law. The officers tried to stop the SUV when they said men hopped out of the vehicle and opened fire on police. The officers did not fire back, and no one was struck.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information was available.

This is the second time in the past 24 hours that a wanted suspect has opened fire on NOPD officers. Officers arrested Dequest McDowell Tuesday night after he fired gunshots at police officers during a chase. No officers were injured in the gunfire and McDowell was arrested without incident.
