TERRYTOWN, LA (WVUE) -

Jefferson Parish investigators are still piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting of former John Curtis Christian School, college and pro football standout Joe McKnight.

Investigators say the incident unfolded at the intersection of Behrman Highway and Holmes Boulevard.

The confrontation unfolded around 2:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Police say Ronald Gasser, 54, shot and killed the McKnight in an apparent road rage incident.

Witnesses say McKnight cutoff Gasser and the two were involved in a heated exchange. That argument escalated and shots were fired.
Many questions remain this morning about the incident. Authorities want to know what led up to it and when or if Gasser will be charged.

“I did talk to one of the witnesses that was here at the scene just moments ago who actually shot video of one of my officers administering CPR to Mr. McKnight and she claims that there were no racial slurs just that there were statements being made that ‘I told you not to mess with me’,” Normand said.
