SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) -

Shortly after 5:30 PM on Sunday December 4, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two vehicle cross-over collision on Interstate 10 east of Oak Harbor Blvd. in Slidell.  The crash claimed the life of 25 year-old Ciara M. Lemon of Marrero.

The on-scene investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as 24 year-old Kilian R. Webster Jr. of Marrero was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand AM westbound on Interstate 10 in the left lane during a heavy rainstorm.  For reasons still under investigation, Webster lost control of his vehicle and crossed into the center median before ultimately crossing into the eastbound travel lanes of Interstate 10.  After crossing into the eastbound lanes, Webster's vehicle was hit on the passenger side by a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 31 year-old Theresa A. Sanchez of New Orleans.  After the impact, Webster's vehicle came to rest on the right side of Interstate 10 east.

Despite being properly restrained at the time of the crash, Ciara Lemon, a passenger in Webster's vehicle, sustained severe injuries.  She was transported to Oschner Medical Center-Northshore, where she later succumbed to her injuries.  Theresa A. Sanchez and two of her passengers were also properly restrained at the time of the crash.  They were all transported to Oschner Medical Center-Northshore, where they were treated for minor injuries.  A 5 year-old juvenile passenger in Webster's vehicle was unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered moderate injuries. He was also transported to Oschner Medical Center-Northshore.

Following the on-scene investigation, Troopers obtained blood samples from both drivers involved.  The samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.  Presently, impairment is not considered to be a contributing factor in this crash.  Kilian R. Webster Jr., the driver of the Grand AM, was cited for Careless Operation, Driving Under Suspension and No Child Restraint.  Any additional charges will be referred to the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney's Office pending the completion of the crash investigation.
