NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police arrest a man wanted for a fatal shooting that occurred in New Orleans East. The incident occurred Sunday, Nov. 20 around 1:30 p.m. in the 6200 block of Chef Menteur Highway. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Cornell Brown, was taken into custody, Wednesday, in the 2700 block of Peniston Street.
Police say that on Nov. 20, police responded to what was originally believed to be a traffic accident with injury. When officers approached the vehicle, they noticed a black man suffering from a gunshot wound. The vehicle, a black SUV had a missing tire and a shattered back window. The victim was brought to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Following the autopsy, the coroner determined that the man died as result of a homicide. Investigators were able to identify Brown as a suspect.
