NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans Police arrested a 17-year-old for having a stolen handgun.

Investigators said they received a call Wednesday morning about a group of school-aged kids hanging around the front of a house in the 10000 block of Lake Forrest Boulevard.

When they searched Tevin Arbuthnot, they said they found a handgun in his jacket pocket. Police said Arbuthnot took off running to try to get away from them. He was arrested less than a block away.

Police booked Arbuthnot on charges of illegal carrying of a handgun and possession of a stolen handgun.

The officers later found out that the gun was reported stolen from Lafourche Parish.
