NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Automakers have a new hurdle to clear to get top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Only 38 2017 models are getting the institute's "Top Safety Pick+" label because headlight performance is being factored into the equation for the first time. The institute thinks its important to recognize how well headlights help drivers avoid hazards.
Last year, when headlights were not a factor, 48 models got the Top Safety Pick+ rating. Click here to see how all vehicles measure up in the institute's safety test this year.
