Slidell voters elect Randy Fandal next police chief

SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - Voters elected Randy Fandal as Slidell police chief on Saturday.

Fandal beat Kevin O'Neill, a former Slidell police captain, with 62% of the votes.

Fandal, a retired state police lieutenant, fills the unexpired term of Randy Smith. He will serve until June 30, 2018.

The interim police chief is Eugene "Batch" Howard.

Fandal was the only candidate who served with law enforcement at both the state and local levels. He promised to run a proactive department that would address the drug problem in Slidell.
